The Accreditation Council for Psychoanalytic Education, Inc, (ACPEinc) is an autonomous agency that was established in 2001 as a not-for-profit corporation to serve as an accrediting body for psychoanalytic institutes and programs. It has a good chance of becoming the first independent psychoanalytic accrediting agency to achieve recognition by the U.S. Secretary of Education. Its Standards of Psychoanalytic Education, updated in 2010, represent a comprehensive integration of the multiple theoretical approaches and training traditions that exist in the profession and take into account 21st century actuality. ACPEinc accreditation provides parity with colleagues in other academic and health care disciplines, supports common educational values, standards and guidelines and encourages conversation among the diverse institutes and programs that comprise its membership.
