Palestinian social workers in the West Bank may be called on to provide care for people whose behaviors are scorned by their mainstream community. Locating ethical practice in shared concerns, feelings, and experiences that are inseparable from the politicized environment, they have developed activist approaches to provide care without the restrictions of a codified, universal social work code of ethics.

What can we, clinical social workers in the US, learn from Palestinian social workers about providing care for people who are stigmatized by mainstream culture? How do we advance our understanding and support for Palestinian social workers whose ethics of care responds, by necessity to their politicized experience?
